The Dallas Cowboys have a defense that cannot stop the run, a quarterback coming off his worst performance of the season and a losing record. Naturally, they’re heading to Lambeau Field for a nationally televised game against an offense that just humiliated Chicago.

Yet the Cowboys vs Packers betting odds make Green Bay only a slight favorite.

The Packers are laying approximately 1.5 points for Sunday’s 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff, with the total sitting at 52.5. Green Bay enters at 3-2 after beating Chicago 31-7. Dallas is 2-3 following an embarrassing 24-16 home loss to previously winless Tampa Bay.

This isn’t simply another traditional NFC rivalry. It is a fascinating betting match-up between two teams dealing with very different defensive problems.

For bettors comparing prices across the best US betting sites, the real question is whether Green Bay’s offensive advantage outweighs the injuries weakening its defensive front.

Cowboys vs Packers Betting Odds for Week 6

The October 14 market shows Green Bay favored by approximately 1.5 points, although prices differ between sportsbooks.

The current Week 6 betting market also reveals an interesting contrast.

Dallas has seen four of its first five games finish Over the total. Green Bay has gone Over only twice.

That discrepancy is worth examining rather than assuming the 52.5-point total is automatically too high.

Jordan Love Has the Matchup Dallas Should Fear

Jordan Love couldn’t have asked for a better performance heading into this game.

Against Chicago, the Packers quarterback completed 25 of 31 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns, finishing with a 137.5 passer rating.

Christian Watson caught six passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Matthew Golden added six receptions for 123 yards, while Tucker Kraft contributed 64 receiving yards.

Green Bay’s passing attack produced the kind of explosive plays that Dallas has struggled to prevent.

The Cowboys enter Week 6 ranked 31st in total defense, allowing 395.4 yards per game, and 25th in scoring defense at 27.2 points allowed.

That’s particularly concerning because Green Bay doesn’t need to rely on one receiver.

Watson can threaten defenses vertically. Golden can create separation downfield. Kraft provides another option against linebackers and safeties.

Dallas defensive coordinator Christian Parker has already been moved from the sideline to the coaching box, while veteran defensive coach Mike Pettine has joined the staff as a senior assistant.

Those changes illustrate the organizational urgency.

The problem is that adjusting responsibilities during the season doesn’t instantly create better coverage communication or stronger tackling.

Green Bay’s biggest offensive advantage is its ability to attack Dallas at multiple levels.

Dallas’ Run Defense Could Be the Deciding Factor

The most alarming statistic from Dallas’ loss to Tampa Bay wasn’t the final score.

It was 241 rushing yards allowed.

Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving carried 21 times for 165 yards, averaging 7.9 yards per attempt. Dallas struggled with gap discipline, tackling and preventing explosive runs.

The official Cowboys-Buccaneers game breakdown also highlighted how Tampa Bay controlled possession for more than 39 minutes.

That’s the blueprint Green Bay could exploit.

If the Packers establish an effective rushing attack, Love gets access to more favorable play-action opportunities.

Dallas then faces an uncomfortable choice.

Commit additional defenders to the run and risk leaving Watson isolated downfield, or maintain coverage depth and allow Green Bay to dictate the game’s physical rhythm.

However, Green Bay’s backfield availability remains important. Josh Jacobs’ status has been complicated by his placement on the commissioner’s exempt list, making the Packers’ rushing personnel something to verify before kickoff.

MarShawn Lloyd scored twice against Chicago but managed only 31 rushing yards on 10 carries.

The Packers should not assume they can reproduce Tampa Bay’s rushing performance simply because Dallas was vulnerable last week.

Still, the match-up creates a legitimate tactical advantage if Green Bay can generate consistent early-down rushing gains.

Dak Prescott and George Pickens Give Dallas a Counterargument

Dallas’ offense looked disorganized against Tampa Bay, but dismissing Dak Prescott would be an overreaction.

Prescott finished with 316 passing yards and one touchdown, although he also threw two interceptions.

His biggest receiving contribution came from George Pickens, who caught nine passes for 130 yards and a touchdown.

CeeDee Lamb had a very different afternoon.

After producing 17 receptions for 189 yards against Houston, Lamb managed only two catches for nine yards against Tampa Bay before leaving with a quadriceps injury.

His availability and effectiveness will be important against Green Bay.

The Cowboys’ offensive ceiling depends heavily on their ability to create favorable matchups through Lamb and Pickens.

If both receivers are available, Dallas can challenge Green Bay’s coverage structure in ways Chicago couldn’t.

Prescott also has tight end Jake Ferguson as a short-area option and Javonte Williams to provide balance.

Dallas must protect Prescott better than it did against Tampa Bay, where pressure and communication problems disrupted its passing rhythm.

That becomes especially important at Lambeau Field, where long-yardage situations can quickly become drive-ending mistakes.

Green Bay’s Defensive Injuries Could Keep Dallas Competitive

The Packers’ dominant performance against Chicago came with a substantial injury cost.

Defensive tackle Javon Hargrave suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper is also dealing with a season-ending Achilles injury.

Meanwhile, former Cowboys star Micah Parsons remains on the physically unable to perform list after undergoing reconstructive knee surgery.

Green Bay’s latest defensive personnel update confirms Parsons has not yet received clearance to practice.

That removes a major potential pass-rushing weapon from Sunday’s match-up.

It also raises questions about Green Bay’s defensive depth.

The Packers forced five turnovers against Chicago, including two Xavier McKinney interceptions, but they won’t necessarily enjoy the same opportunities against Prescott.

Chicago started backup quarterback Tyson Bagent, who struggled throughout the afternoon.

Prescott brings a different combination of experience, arm talent and receiving personnel.

Green Bay may have the stronger overall team, but the injury situation could create opportunities for Dallas to move the football and keep the game close.

What to Expect From Cowboys vs Packers

Three matchups deserve particular attention.

  • Jordan Love against Dallas’ secondary: Love just produced 367 passing yards against Chicago. Dallas’ coverage communication and tackling must improve dramatically to prevent another explosive passing performance.
  • Dak Prescott against Green Bay’s depleted front: With Parsons unavailable and Hargrave out, Green Bay must generate pressure without relying on its injured stars. Giving Prescott time to locate Lamb, Pickens and Ferguson could turn this into a high-scoring contest.
  • Early-down rushing efficiency: Dallas surrendered 241 rushing yards against Tampa Bay. Green Bay will want to exploit that weakness, but its ability to do so depends on the available running backs and offensive-line execution.

The 52.5-point total suggests the market expects considerably more offense than the Packers’ 31-7 victory over Chicago might imply.

That expectation is understandable.

Dallas has allowed at least 24 points in four of five games, while Green Bay has several explosive receivers capable of generating points without needing lengthy possessions.

But the Over is not automatically attractive simply because both teams have dangerous quarterbacks.

Turnovers, offensive-line protection and Green Bay’s running-back situation could all affect the pace.

Betting Outlook: Is Green Bay -1.5 the Better Price?

The match-up favors Green Bay in several important areas.

Love is playing efficient football. Watson and Golden provide explosive-play ability. Dallas is allowing too many yards and has already made changes to its defensive coaching structure.

The Packers also have home-field advantage.

However, Green Bay’s defensive injuries complicate the betting decision. Dallas still has enough offensive talent to exploit weakened personnel and make this a one-possession game.

At Packers -1.5, the spread deserves consideration because Green Bay only needs to win by a field goal or more.

If the market moves closer to -3, the betting value becomes less obvious.

The total of 52.5 also demands caution. A competitive game could produce plenty of points, but bettors are already paying for that expectation.

The strongest takeaway from the Cowboys vs Packers betting odds is that Green Bay has the more convincing match-up advantages entering Sunday night.

Dallas’ defense has too many weaknesses to ignore, and Love has the offensive weapons to expose them.

Green Bay is the more credible favorite at the current short spread, but its defensive injuries make price discipline essential.
