Donald Trump stakes much of his reputation on his abilities as a businessman. He does a lot to make money –he is a big investor, for example. But, of course, he is not only a businessman. He is also a politician. Right now, he is running for reelection as President of the United States.
How do these different parts of his life affect each other? Let’s consider how his presidential candidacy might affect his investments.
Donald Trump’s Money
Trump has a lot of money, which allows him to be a great investor. While he’s spending a lot on legal and campaign fees, he still has a large stock of money to draw from. He is also doing things to increase his amount of money, which gives him more to invest with. For example, he had some refinancing done on an office that he owns in San Francisco. Moreover, he sold his hotel in Washington D.C.
While exact figures are always hard to discern given the generally private nature of at least many of his transactions, we can say that he easily has hundreds of millions of dollars available.
Trump Needs More Money
Trump needs his investments to pan out for him.
Older people in general –he is 76– certainly want to be able to rely on investments. But a man like Trump also has incredible expenses. His legal fees cost him hundreds of millions. Of course, he needs similarly large amounts of money to campaign for the Presidency.
Campaigning requires various sorts of mass-media communications, traveling, and other things that are expensive. The fact that Trump is facing so many criminal charges has induced him to use up considerable financial resources.
His lawyers, of course, do not simply follow him around for free. He spends a lot of time in court, which means that when he campaigns, he has to use his time efficiently.
The point here is that campaigning for presidency is very difficult for Trump as a consequence of his criminal proceedings. His legal expenses and the time he spends engaging in legal battles have raised the question as to whether he can afford and spend sufficient time on a presidential campaign.
His investments could afford him with a potentially quick and significant means of cash that he can use on his campaign, which is the major goal for him –Trump does not just want to be a smart investor; business and making money are means to an end: he wants to regain his place in the White House.
Trump’s Investments
Trump has a little invested in cash and gold.
Stocks are something that he’s much more inclined to invest in. He owns more — but how much more is especially uncertain in this case –Treasuries and money-market investments.
The greatest proportion of his investments is occupied by bonds.
Stocks
It is not merely the case that Trump’s campaign relies on investments, so that Trump may use his investments to support his campaign. It is also the case that Trump’s campaigning and his entire political endeavor exercise influence on his investments.
Trump being ever the important public figure, it turns out that the success level of his investments depends to a meaningful extent on the development of his political endeavors.
His presidential campaign has, to give a prominent example, induced a shift in the stocks that he likes to invest in. One significant stock is DWAC, which stands for Digital World Acquisition Corp.
Trump’s determination to stand once again in the political spotlight has created all sorts of expectations that link to the value of stocks such as this one.
For example, his political campaigning has nourished the expectation of an increase in the number of users of his favored Truth Social platform. Such an expectation has led to a stark increase in the DWAC share price.
In recent years, Phunware Inc. is another stock that has seen a strong increase in share price. This stock is likewise tied to Trump and to his presidential campaign. When Trump campaigned for reelection back in 2020, he had charged this Phunware Inc., a software developer, to construct a phone app.
All of this is not to say that Trump’s presidential campaign positively influences all of his stocks and other investments. Rumble Inc. is an example of a stock tied to Trump that has been highly volatile, meaning that it is capable of plummeting in value but also of increasing strongly.
Different developments in Trump’s campaign journey, such as his arraignment, his live speeches, and so on, have influenced the direction in which Rumble Inc. heads.
This is another example of a stock that he invests in and that is affected in some way or another by his presidential candidacy. Such a history can only suggest that his candidacy will continue to influence his investments.
