After President Joe Biden announced he would no longer seek reelection, top politics betting sites like BetOnline (find out more with our BetOnline Review) have installed Vice-President Kamala Harris as the top Democrat to defeat the favorite, Donald Trump, and claim the White House after the 2024 presidential election in November.
Biden Bows Out
The writing was on the wall that Joe Biden would be dropping out of the race, especially after announcing he had contracted COVID-19. Biden had previously stated that if a medical condition should arise, he would withdraw from the race so it gave him the wiggle room he needed after obstinately stating he would not drop out despite his disastrous debate performance and diminished mental acuity.
On Sunday afternoon, Biden posted on X:

Now that Biden has bowed, Kamala Harris is the oddsmakers’ choice at +185 to top the Democratic ticket and has the second-best chance, behind Trump (-200), to become the next POTUS. Although Harris is younger and sharper than Biden, her 38.4% approval rating ranks far lower than the sitting president and that will be a difficult hurdle to overcome.
But there are still other candidates on the board and although Harris is the logical choice and the only one who could tap into the $100 million war chest that she and Biden share as a presidential ticket, some might believe there are better options and candidates available that are more likely to beat Trump.
What Are the Odds?
As stated, Donald Trump is the Republican nominee and the leading candidate to return to the White House at odds of -200, while Harris is next at +185 since Biden announced he would be dropping out of the race. But the Democratic National Convention will be held from August 19 through August 22 in Chicago and anything could still happen.
Odds according to BetOnline as of 7/22/24:
- Donald Trump -200
- Kamala Harris +185
- Michelle Obama +2200
- Gavin Newsom +2500
- Gretchen Whitmer +2500
- Josh Shapiro +7500
- Andy Beshear +12,500
- Hillary Clinton +15,000
- Pete Buttigieg +15,000
- George Clooney +15,000
- Wes Moore +30,000
- J.B. Pritzker +30,000
As intriguing as some of the other possibilities are, the DNC delegates will almost assuredly rally around Vice-President Harris who Biden went on to endorse in his post on X.
“My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this.” – President Joe Biden on X
