Here at Digital Wager Wire, we have followed the Sam Bankman-Fried Trial and at BetOnline you can bet whether Sam Bankman-Fried will be present at sentencing, his length of sentence and his attire worn during sentencing (find out more with our BetOnline Review).

To make this more ironic, you should know that all of these bets can be placed using crypto. Thank you, Sam Bankman-Fried.

So, let’s analyse those three markets

Recommended Wagers

  • Sam Bankman-Fried over 60.5 years (+280)
  • Sam Bankman-Fried will wear a Tie at Sentencing (-150)

Will Sam Bankman-Fried be Present at Sentencing?

  • Yes – (–400)
  • No – (+280)

With a straight-up two-way selection market of yes or no, it is understandable that Bankman-Fried is a prohibitive favourite having always been present at the trial. That presence saw him take to the witness stand after he wasn’t expected to at the outset. This was a last-chance saloon throw of the dice for the accused’s defence but as we reported at the time, if anything it did him no favours at all.

Sam Bankman-Fried-trial

This was illustrated by how the jury took only four hours of deliberations to come back with a guilty verdict.

Having covered the trial for Digital Wager Wire, there is nothing that leads me to believe Bankman-Fried will not be present at the sentencing, but the question is, do we want to back him at what seems rather prohibitive odds of -400?

For us at Digital Wager Wire, we will pass on this market. We expect Bankman-Fried to be present but don’t see the price of (-400) as a value to wager.

Sam-Bankman-Fried’s length of sentence

  • Under 60.5 years – (–400)
  • Over 60.5 years – (+280)

This “length of sentence” market for Sam Bankman-Fried has piqued our attention at Digital Wager Wire a little more. Having followed the trial, we understand that the guilty thirty-one-year-old could suffer over 100 years’ incarceration with a maximum sentence available of 110 years.

After the scathing statements from the judge and constant admonishment of the former crypto mogul’s defence lawyers, we find it hard to believe that much leniency will be shown. Let’s also consider that the Judge demanded Bankman-Fried bail conditions were revoked after accusations of witness tampering, meaning the accused was taken back into custody.

The former CEO of FTX has seen his closest confidantes become witnesses for the prosecution – Caroline Ellison, Gary Wang and Nishad Singh. They have obviously done deals for their own sentencing and their testimonies are effectively their mitigation for lighter punishments.

Judge Lewis Kaplan is known for his disparaging opinions over the years of white-collar crimes and published several pieces of work on the issue. I think Kaplan will want to make an example out of the accused, especially with the deals already agreed with his co-accused. With that in mind, the over 60.5 years feels low and seems valued at +280.

What Will Sam Bankman-Fried Wear?

There has been much said about the accused’s attire during the trial which has prompted the BetOnline market to ask what will Sam Bankman-Fried wear at his sentencing, as below:

This looks more like a novelty market, but it’s very understandable given how his success in the cryptocurrency world has brought him cult status with fans. Bankman-Fried took that persona to Congress with the intention of making FTX the most trusted brand of the digital age.

His YouTube videos would always be in a collarless t-shirt and often shorts giving the image of a student enjoying that type of lifestyle.

Then, when he appeared before Congress, he changed his image to that of the more regular jacket, shirt and tie. The legal proceedings saw the accused in that more formal attire again throughout his trial.

Looking at the table above of BetOnline prices, the one that sticks out to me is the Tie because when Bankman-Fried has been seen in a Suit or Jacket, he has also worn a tie and shirt.

At the (-150) with BetOnline about Sam Bankman-Fried wearing a tie for sentencing, here at Digital Wager Wire, we advise that you follow us in with a bet on that market.
