The end is nigh for the iconic Mirage Hotel & Casino, but its demise not only signals a new chapter in the form of the Hard Rock Las Vegas but also a mandatory slot and table game giveaway for all progressives that have not been hit.
Progressive Slot Liquidation
Nevada gaming regulators require any and all outstanding progressives to be distributed before a property can close. This means that the Mirage must give away approximately $1.2 million in slot jackpots and $400,000 in progressive table game cash for a total of $1.6 million.
The Mirage Progressive Finale Cash Giveaway promotion will run from July 9 through July 13 and will have one last day on July 16th before operations cease on July 17th, 2024. To qualify for a share of the $1.2 million in slots payouts, customers must play any slot machine using their Unity card inserted during each hourly drawing between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
The schedule is as follows:
- July 9 – 11: $200,000 in Cash prizes guaranteed each day
- July 12 – 13: $250,000 in Cash prizes guaranteed each day
- July 16: $100,000 in Cash prizes guaranteed
According to the rules:
“Any Unity Card guest playing with their Unity Card properly inserted into a slot machine within two (2) minutes of each drawing will be eligible to win.”
“Participants must be present to win. If a winner does not identify themself at the Unity Players Club desk within five (5) minutes of being announced, a new name will be drawn until a winner is proclaimed.”
“Over the next two months we will bid farewell to this iconic and historic property and then we will commence an incredible transformation,” the Mirage posted on Facebook. “We look forward to the beginning of an exciting journey into a new era as Hard Rock Las Vegas will ignite the Strip with entertainment, innovation, and world-class hospitality.”
Passing the Torch
Hard Rock International, owned by Florida’s Seminole Tribe, is an expansive operation featuring over 300 locations including hotels, casinos, performance venues, conference centers, and recently received legal authority to launch online sports betting in Florida through a compact with the state. It will now begin extensive renovations on the Mirage, transforming it into the Hard Rock Vegas scheduled to open in spring 2027.
The renovations will include an added 1.2 million square feet of retail and convention space as well as an additional theater. The resort pool currently in place will undergo extensive renovations as well. But there will also be more casino areas, restaurants, retail shops, and a 660-foot-tall tower consisting exclusively of suites.
In a press release by the Culinary Union, it stated that “workers are protected, even as the property closes its doors entirely for three years.”
Joe Lupo, president of The Mirage, announced, “While we pause for the incredible transformation of this iconic property, I’d like to thank all team members at The Mirage for their incredible commitment and helping us provide memorable experiences for our guests.
“We are planning to host collaborative hiring events with other employers in the Las Vegas community over the coming months. Connecting the thousands of talented Mirage team members who provide outstanding service with new employment opportunities is a top priority.”
