Donald Trump’s Presidential Odds Even Shorter After Assassination Attempt

Former President Donald Trump’s odds of becoming future President Donald Trump got even shorter after he not only survived an attempt on his life but turned it into a bloody rallying cry before being whisked away to a nearby hospital.

Anatomy of the 2024 Presidential Odds

Donald Trump’s chances of reclaiming the White House have been on a rollercoaster ride since the Biden regime took over in January 2021. Trump was tagged as a +650 underdog while Vice President Kamala Harris was the favorite at +350 to win in 2024 with her boss, President Joe Biden, trailing right behind at +400 shortly after the inauguration.

But much has happened since that time with high inflation and higher prices eroding confidence in the current administration. Trump had been steadily gaining until he became the odds-on favorite at -150 before his odds spiked to +120 after being found guilty on 34 counts in his hush money trial. But that was just a blip on the radar as the odds drifted back to -150 shortly thereafter.

After Biden’s disastrous debate performance, his odds soared from being a slight underdog to +500 with many of his Democrat colleagues and supporters calling for him to step down. Biden looked every bit of 81 years old with rambling answers that trailed off into incoherent mutterings. Trump’s performance, while not a showstopper, was at least lucid and comprehensible.

Grace Under Fire

It’s no secret Donald Trump is a polarizing figure with his MAGA devotees hanging on his every word and believing he can do no wrong even if a New York judge saw it quite differently. On the other hand, his opponents don’t simply dislike Trump, they loathe every breath he takes and would vote for a cucumber over the former president.

But even Trump’s most vocal critic would have a tough time criticizing his demeanor after a bullet grazed his ear close enough to bloody the side of his face and trigger the Secret Service to scramble to his side. As he was ushered off the podium a defiant Trump raised his fist in the air with an American flag as his backdrop and mouthed the word “Fight.”

Hollywood could not have scripted a more impactful political snapshot for the ages and those who liked Trump before now deify him while many voters who were on the fence may be more inclined to come over to the Trump camp. Thus, Trump’s presidential odds shortened even more after the assassination attempt to where BetOnline (find out more with our BetOnline Review) has installed him as a -300 favorite followed by Joe Biden at +375, Kamala Harris at +1000, and rounding out the top four is none other than Michelle Obama at +4500.

And the financial gurus are taking note as well with Mark Rosenberg, co-chief and founder of GeoQuant, a risk-analysis firm, saying, “Given the widespread perception that the shooting increases Trump’s probability of winning, we may well see Treasury yields jump, as they did after the debate.”

Keith Lerner, co-chief investing officer and chief strategist at Truist, did remind investors, voters, and those who bet on political races that “The Republican convention was already going to come into the spotlight this week, and this will amplify that attention. That said, the actual election is still almost four months away and a lot can happen between now and then.”
